Almost 1 in 2 women become victims of domestic violence when away in a foreign country without familial support nearby. Escaping with only the clothes on her back, Sue found temporary refuge at a friend’s hostel. With the help of a local domestic violence charity, her belongings were returned and she started on the long journey to recovery. After the consulate referred her case to the British Benevolent Fund, Sue was able to restart her life away from violence and away from terror.
